I agree to an extent with what both of you are saying. But I will have to speak up for mage classes. Having recently begun playing one. The state of CF now has leaned towards practicing. I have many theories on why this is, but I wont bore you with them here.
But with the recent trend leaning towards mass pking and gangbanging it has become more difficult to travel, even in groups. And it has always been difficult to find competant groupmembers. So now, when one is found ther are coveted more dearly than a Unicorn pendant by most. It isnt always because they are ooc friends, sometimes, especially with mages, it is wise only to travel with people you know, and can trust to do their job when the shit hits the fan.
And to speak on the roleplaying issue. It will only deteriorate if you are a poor roleplayer to begin with. I often find that the longer I group with someone the tighter the roleplay becomes, expecially if the other character/s are worth a shit. They tend to make me want to roleplay better.
But maybe thats me.

P.S. And hearing from an invoker that he is busy practicing is like hearing from a trouper that he is having mudsex, the two go hand in hand.
