Well,

Half-elves are most similar to humans (obviously),
but the ability score trade-offs are worth it for
anyone who isn't planning to be a bruiser-type.
The extra point of Int, Wis, and Dex can be handier
than the extra Str and Con (especically Str) if you
aren't a warrior type. And I believe (have not confirmed)
that you can end up with a higher Charisma, which recently
got more relevant as I understand.

Yes, vuln_iron is a big pain, especially since it's one of the vulnerabilities
that doesn't even let you handle things made of that material. Yes, quiet movement and
infravision are small perks in comparison. As an assassin, I could even have the skills
to replace both of them, if I really wanted to spend a practice session on dark vision.

But, even if you, Narev, are completely unconcerned about
having a character to fit a roleplaying idea, it's
definitely not true that they make "good nothing".
