From the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary:

Main Entry 2: spelt
Pronunciation: 'spelt
chiefly British past and past participle of SPELL

So just because YOU write 'spelled' or 'color' or 'kidnaping' (my personal peeve), don't just assume that the way the rest of the world does it is wrong and go around correcting them with a smug attitude.
