I think the cabal itself is close; we originally intended it to be a more defensive cabal. Unfortunately, the cabal powers were used for kicking everyone's asses and it ended up looking like a PK cabal. I think this answers my opinion of question 2 as well. The original vision was a cabal of Elves, Half-Elves, Rangers, Druids, etc. that were defensively housed in the wilderness but could repel/expel intruders or make life hell for them easily.

It's probably damaged by the way the powers are used, though you could argue that "if I have this power, why not use it all I can" is a valid approach to the game - thus blaming the powers themselves.

Certainly the vision didn't include a cluster of camouflaged folks sitting in a wall of thorns in the dwarf forest, ready to kill anything that entered their little trap.
