The main difficulty is that gold is so plentiful it is worthless. Statements like "you can find anything, for the right price" then equate to "if you have gold (which is trivial) then you can find anything" which goes against the grain of CF equipment gathering. The second difficulty is that if really useful items are available for sale (in a gold-glutted economy), high level characters can just go buy a thousand nifty swords and hand them out to everyone they meet.

If we come up with a scheme to make a working economy on CF, then perhaps we can come back to this.
