I am no expert in this, but I believe I can answer some questions.

The bladesinger is a specialty kit used for warrior/mage elves. The elf chooses one sword (ie., long sword, bastard, katana, etc.). That sword is their sole weapon in life. They can use others, but at a penalty to attack, because of their extensive training in that particular blade. The bladesinger receives many bonuses with that weapon... + to hit, + damage, + iniative, special weapon attacks, special fighting styles, and other such things. The Bladesinger can only wield a weapon in one hand (no dual wielding), which leads to their other ability. The Bladesinger can cast spells while wielding the sword (hence, the need for the free hand for somatic components). No other mage can wield and cast at the same time.

The Bladesinger, while dealing vast ammounts of damage, is not there for that purpose only. The Bladesong is an art form of the elves, a pinicale of concentration, practice, and expertise. The bladesinger is a master of his craft, and there are very few such masters.

Some of this information may be wrong, but I believe, as a whole, most of it is near to dead on.

Also, to my knowledge, there have been no bladesingers in this sence of the term on CF.
