It's the same as any other practical joke played on someone who doesn't find the joke funny. Appologizing doesn't help, at least right away.

Have you ever been at camp and seen (or helped) someone dragged out into the common area still in their bed? When they wake up, to find themselves surrounded by girls pointing and laught, they tend not to care too much if you turn right around an appologize. They tend to run away and try to recover their dignity that was stolen from them.
