Why not give bards specialization?
Rock-n-Roll (dance with jack), Romance (cold be sleep), Rap (instantly killing thing), Acid (offense), Classic (heavy heart, etc).
If serious, there are much styles in music, and each of style.
We all know, that elves is best singers in the world, they may have defensive/misc music.
Well, it's just an idea, and have a lot of minors, I know. But I am sure it possible to made something good with that.
