If you re-read the log, you would see that if the extra songs had gone through, he would have been just as likely to win as his opponent. He had already driven off the unimpressive Thursin, and had slapped around the assassin a bit.

Also, perfected damage songs do more damage, and it is known from the log that piercing sweet music is not yet perfected. Since it did virtually all of his damage, a few extra points on each may have tipped the scales, and gotten the assassin to wimpy out.

If you're a bard, why are you picking fights on the battlements? One "The battlement guard has arrived." and this fight is very different.
