Remember than invokers have to perfect spells to get new spells. The amount of time they spend levelling is small compared to the amount of time they spend practicing. Even though experience points are not linear, the need for practice is constant from about level 1 to 41. (Once you've mastered vortex, you have all the spells available, and only need perfect them if you want that particular spell to work better.) Sure, you have more and more mana as levels go up, but the spells cost more mana, and some of the higher level ones (vortex) are painful.
