You are assuming the assassin isn't smart, then. If you aren't playing a class/race/cabal combo that can see hidden, a smart assassin that can trail you well should be able to catch you in some remote place, with a good shot at taking you out.
Sure, you could avoid this risk by constantly avoiding hide-able areas, spamming faerie fog until you turn green, teleporting at random every few minutes, or quaffing fireball potions at random, but 99% of the time, you're just wasting time and effort.
You can -reduce- your risk of being assassinated, by not sitting around Galadon or in your cabal. The only time I was assassinated, however, I was off in a rarely-travelled area, exploring. Didn't see that one coming, believe you me. Could I have prevented it? Sure, if I knew the bastard was there. But I didn't, and he knew what he was doing, and earned himself some loot.
I don't doubt that Kosedran did the majority of his killing on people who took no precautions at all. Why do anything else, if easy prey makes themselves so available? But to suggest that you, or any player, is utterly assassin-proof, is foolish.
