If I was the current War Master, I would never send a Blade into the Village to stand there and yell challenges unless I wanted that one dead. A Blade voluntarily throwing his life away like this is grounds for Anathema- you're just giving gear to the enemy, and demonstrating weakness by losing. (And you will lose against a competent Rager if you don't bother to potion up.)
I agree that there are roles where bravery (not honor) could fit into an Imperial role. But that wasn't what the poster was doing.
