I would always caltrap first- it does damage and if it only lets him hit you one extra time... its worth it

yes - shields are only useful in situations where you need to stay alive for a while to either get away from someone, do all the assassin things, like kote, kanset, caltraps etc etc or while tanking mobs so your group can deal damage and you dont get hit

I would almost always use the last kick I perfected (mostly... lag kicks are good.. I would use axe kick when you have it - at least once in the fight, and crescent instead of disarm etc)
