They are comfortable footwear. Look at them, no magical runes... just a worn and comfortable pair of boots. As you grow, they wear out and begin to hurt your feet. Again, no magic there.
Killing people for wearing traveling boots is inane. At least just say you wanted the onyx bracelet and leave it at that.
