I think the most tattoo'd Marans I've ever seen at one time (since the new tattoo) was 4 or so...now, have all the people who have had the tattoo been worth wearing it? Possibly not, have they screwed up while I was online to see it? No. As far as the taunting and then running and letting phoenix fire kill off someone *shrug* personally I find it lame and if I had been online at the time, wouldn't probably gnashed him severely for it...but back to the tattoo itself.
Question for you, what cabal can Maran's join? Arbiter? No. Battle? Not without killing cabalmates. Master? Again, not without killing cabalmates. Entropy? See aforementioned...and remember Zorszaul. Sylvan? Possibly, though it'd be rough. Troupe? No...hard to mix drinks for evils, when your god wants you killing them. Dawn? It's possible...but hasn't happened yet, and would take a lot of rp to convince me to tattoo you, while convincing Selric and Raisa not to boot you. So where does this leave the Maran? El solo...so they're given something through the tattoo that evens things out a touch. Without telling you some of the checks and balances I'll ask a few questions for you to ponder over...1: Why does it affect people who kill many more than people who don't seem to kill that many?
2: Why don't Maran's constantly use it, time after time after time? 3: Have we ever seen phoenix fire hurt someone that wasn't evil?
Yes, it is a nasty tattoo power, yes it is prety savage to be on the opposing end of it. Is it 'overpowered'? Depends on what you compare it to. Compare it to a Trouper, sure it might be. Compare it to a Battlerager, probably not. As with anything else on the mud, if you feel it's overpowered..play it before you make a judgement. (See Khiravn's post above...it says it all quite nicely)
