We can also look at it from the other side:

In Reply to: The Empire-Rager agreement IS stupid because it is a BLANTANT violation of Imperial Law #2. (text, rant, complaint) posted by An Old Arbiter on May 26, 2000 at 11:24:45:

Why have the battleragers agreed to such a treaty?

This is from the log above.

Arlian tells you 'Because you protect magi and enslave guards.'

This statement was in response to Imbrogno's asking why the ragers were focusing on arbiters instead of mages and Imperials.

Ok, so assuming Arlian speaks for a good bit of the village when he gives an answer like that(he is an Veteran) we have some contradictory statements and beliefs.

Arlian hates arbiters because they protect mages. Ok, but so do Servants, Imperials, Sylvans, and so on. Imperials have TWO special sects DEVOTED to mages. You'd think it'd be a priority to take those powers away. But the ragers aren't thinking about that, they're thinking about their treaty with the blade and divine sects. What they don't realize, or are choosing to ignore, is that not taking the Codex helps the mages of the Empire as well by allowing them to have their powers.

Now, to the second part of the statement. Arlian hates arbiters because they "enslave" guards. I'll assume he's talking about special guards and in response I'll ask whether special guards are any more enslaved than Centurions. Special guards can only be called in protected cities where there are already cityguards available. One would imagine that the special guards are just elite cityguards who have devoted their life to protecting order. Ok, so if Arlian hates the use of special guards he also has to hate the use of Centurions and thus he should take the Codex to prevent Centurions from being "enslaved." And, if that wasn't enough, there are ACTUAL imperial slaves, at least there were the last time I went to the Imperial Lands. I guess the ragers can overlook that too.

Why not? They're overlooking the fact that they're allowing mages to have additional power simply by NOT acting. Here I thought ragers were a proactive cabal. Guess I was wrong.
