A conjurer who spams lash is like a gnome warrior who spams bash. (Mmm... rhyme...)
Sure, sometimes it'll work, and out of those times that it works, it'll sometimes have the effect you want it to, but most of the time all you're doing is lagging yourself and giving your foe free rounds when there are better things you could be doing.
Did I ever use lash? Sure, I had it mastered and there are situations in which I used it. Did I nightgaunt people and then spam lash? Hell no. A majority of the tactical interest of nightgaunts lies in choosing the location to which you are going to gaunt your foe. Yes, I know he was lashing because he didn't want the necro to just word, and he didn't know the necro was held. But it's a waste of a gaunt to gamble on successfully hitting lashes in order to finish the kill. And once he realized that the necro WAS held, damage becomes a priority. Even ruling out any number of magical items that would end the fight almost outright, magic missile alone would be a better choice. If not for the awful luck of the demon bashing JUST as wraithform wore off (and the hold did), Tekkumset's word would have gone through and this would be a "damn, that was close" log instead of a "damn, that sucks" log.
And Quinthen, several people together spamming lash in a group is a very different story from one mage doing so. A group of gnome warriors spamming bash could probably kill someone, but that doesn't mean spamming bash is a good tactic for a gnome warrior in general.
