Here are a few rules that all people should consider before posting on any of the three forums.
1) Don't post using the name of a current character. This is a rule that I've known for a long time, but haven't been able to follow myself, until now. What you effectively do when you post using your current character's name is open yourself to IC repercussions(sp) for OOC opinions. Moreover, you open yourself to OOC flames for IC actions. You also make your character more vulnerable to exploitation because people can get a general feel for how knowledgeable you are by the intellect you display on the forums. Those who might not have risked fighting you before might give you a go since you displayed a general ignorance about one aspect of the game on the forum.
2) Don't let pride fog your judgement. If you post an opinion and several people tell you you're wrong, or that you should try to experience things from the other side, don't let your pride urge you into getting into a pissing contest. All this does is add to those things listed in number one. If you come off as an asshole OOC people start attributing that to your character and treat you in kind. Minalcar, and maybe even myself, were good examples of this.
3) In general, think before you post. Think about what you hope to gain from posting. Think about what your odds of achieving that goal are. Think about whether or not your goal is worth getting flamed over, 'cause you will get flamed regardless of what you post. There are just some people that get off on that.
