Archons have a searing light attack, which should be unaffected by cloud resist, but which they are certainly not vuln to.
Malaglen's advice is pretty much on the money. I can count on one hand the number of people who ever approached the proper tactics when dealing with my archons.
For those who are frustrated with conjurers who use transplendant archons... look over a log I posted as Peroleth back in May, where I fought Kamal and Gergran at the Grove. Look at the first fifth or so of the log... read it over, and over, and over again. See if you can figure out why Kamal is smart, and you aren't. :P
For bonus points, see if you can figure out how he could have won that fight decisively.
