I found that kanset was more likely to fail first off than kote. kote is more likely to fail than caltraps first off.
Each seemed easier when the opponent is of lower dex - so if you know your in for the long haul, I would generally caltrap, kote, kanset - it would be extremelly rare to fail on any that way.
If I went straight for kanset I tended to fail more often and just give the opponent more rounds with his weapon(s).
now I could have been imagining things...
I would normally start with kote as well, cos the likelihood of failing is small.
