1. You can't make spikes on fresh green fields near battle's cabal.
Only entangle. // At least it was like that in my time.
2. By the time you've communed thornhear+entangle+try spikes (7 rounds) you would be dead if not rescue yourself in a middle.
Even then opponent would be near perfect health.
3. Is Varg arial ? It is nearly impossible to thornheart races with high dex.
Success ratio of it is close to ratio of holding elf with 'hold person'.
4. Though druids do not have scrolls/staves/wands you still can get some protections.
Easiest to get and not limited are stone skin and shield. (You can get haste/aura but that is troublesome.)
Charging blindely is rager-berserker style.
Can't thing anything else.
In this case if I were druid I would :
spelled up minimum with :protection metals/fly/armor of thorns/fly/stone skin/shield
Started fight with entangle, rescued myself immediatly and after went for sunrays.
OR // If I knew I could not win but want to make a lot of trouble for opponent and have courage to do it :
I would go entange/thornheart/spores/forest haven/quaff return.
If it would be succesfull opponent would be practically disabled for about 120 hours.
It is very annoying believe me.
