The riverbed is quite wide here, and expands further to the west as it
approaches the remnants of a small lake. The ground is littered with
broken rocks, and has permanent flow marks etched into its sunbaked
surface. The clay hardpan of the banks is low, and mildly sloping, eaten
at by uncounted centuries of the river's passing. Impassable mountains
rise to the south and east, their jagged peaks piercing a thin layer of
clouds. Blocked by the mountains, the river's path winds north and west.
