In fight - you lost time in fist several rounds and also some after you fiended him.
You should have :

a)in first round - sing 'then you do not see me'
b) flee, quaff fly if you have one
c) 'cold to be sleep' while he is trying to knife empty air

//repeat "flee,sleep" procedure if you failed or got knifed

d) sleep lasts about 7+ hours - you would have plenty of time
e) sing 'weak time of the year' , 'heavy heart', 'reveal all' (so he would not hide), 'tears', 'dome of illusion'
and at the end of his sleep - sing again 'when you do not see me' and 'fiend'
f) trip him off picking his weapons (you could have wielded that wavedancer)
basically chase him all around not giving time to quaff healings. May be dirt him.
