If an assassin hits a kotegaeshi, there are two levels of hurt it can do:

1) -str/-dex, based on their level.
2) "Wrist crunching" echo": -str/-dex again, and you can't dual anything at all, regardless of weight.

You received the less effective kotegaeshi #1. That small (-4 or so at your level?) loss of strength caused you to lose a weapon, and therefore flourentine and the like.

My point: You didn't come ready to fight an assassin if a vanilla -4 strength cost you the fight. He could have been link dead with a poison dagger in hand and bloodthirst on his mind, and it would have been close, especially if you were dirting him instead of doing something to hurt him. Get yourself some +str/+dex gear if you plan to be fighting assassins with any regularity, otherwise they will continue to tool you, stone skin or no.
