But I like it for the ranger nonetheless. Not necessarily because he's helping a kobold(he probably shouldn't help the kobold since kobolds are among those hated by sylvans as being mutations of nature or something), but because he's helping. If you were to attack a bird or some other creature in front of him I think it'd be realistic that he help.

Maybe it's a reversal of the "cityguard helping against chaotics" phenomenon. It looks like you're a ranger though so I don't suppose you're lawful, but maybe you are?
