I don't buy the whole right to bear arms BS. I think it's an antiquated law that if the forefathers were alive today would probably choke and gag, as if they had eaten entrails(necessary CF content), to see that the NRA and others were using it the way that they are.

However, a general gun ban would be counter-productive. There are already more stringent laws in the books for people that use guns for illegal purposes, carry guns illegally, etc, they just need to be better enforced. A gun ban is not only counter-productive, it's pointless. There are millions of guns already out there and they have an estimated shelf life of 460 years. You want to ban guns completely(ie all citizens who own guns must now give/sell their guns to authorities in exchange for the necessary reimbursement)? That's never going to happen. Point of fact. You want to ban the sale of new guns? It's a well-known and scientifically proven fact that the majority of guns used in crimes are bought illegally and that more stringent restrictions on gun sales is largely pointless.

You want to curb gun violence? You ban gun shows and you put more stringent laws on the books when guns are used illegally(life w/o parole has a nice ring to it and would ensure that I maintain career stability until death :)) A ban on guns is severing a toe that is plagued with a hangnail. Trigger locks are a band-aid on an arm plague with gangrene(sp). The NRA is the devil bobby, the devil, but so are the more liberal initiatives.
