Since Lloyd started the fight with a trip, if he had been flying the trip would have never gone through
and he would have bashed. The thing that lost the fight
was not fleeing, and forcing Lloyd to do a few rounds
with the elemental before Alhadrin came back and started
wrathing or shield bashing.
