Even though you thought(*) he was "fucking stupid", you might want to look at how long he lasted, despite several mistakes, not the least of which was chatting instead of running. Granted, his offense was quite weak, but parry and spin seemed to be working quite well. Not all defenses are entirely based on dex, you know. Strength, weapon type, and size come into play, among other things.
(*): Admittedly, you put in a disclaimer that you weren't clear on this, but then you might not want to insult the poster's intelligence.
