I'd be the last one to complain about Phoenix Fire (because I'd much rather have it than not and I did use it when able and appropriate), but its limitations/restrictions are tough enough that I don't think you can compare it to any set of cabal powers out there (at hero - at low ranks I can see why it'd be particularly threatening). I guess when I said crutches, I meant everything else that comes along with a cabal (other than early scarab, the Maran are the only religion that rules out cabal membership as a prerequisite that I can think of).
