Even if he didn't have an archon, which Rit didn't, it would be next to impossible to take him out with a single air form. Though I'm not a huge PKer, I've played both sides of this equation and the odds are just stacked against you.
If the conjurer has an archon, about the only ways to kill him are bard sleep then backstab/assassinate/pwk (or the normal way if you slept the archon) or to have a group and have one person attack the archon so it won't heal.
