In addition, he asked you to summon Jim to outside the Haven, and you understood him to say summon 'him' outside the Haven (causing you to sorta say stupid stuff). He probably gated to jim after asking you if it was there (and you saying yes) and found himself in emerald. That right there is enough for a guy who is tired of you not being around much to anath you. He had a bit of class and waited until you TOLD him you died. Heh.
