...but the overall idea is right. You get 1 xp per % up to 80%, I think. Maybe 2xp per from 76-80, I'm not sure.

81-85% 5
86-90% 10
91-95% 20 (?)
96-100% 50

And then, some skills or spells give double the normal exp... perhaps those above a certain level? I'm not sure, but I know invoker shields and the top tier invoker spells give double exp.
