It's a bug of sorts in the prog on the shrine guard that kicks you.

First of all, it isn't supposed to kick you INTO the shrine... or if it is, it's never done it to me.

However, the prog is probably set such that it puts you in the room south of the guards, but in the same instant in mud terms, you'd died. So you took a ***DEV from the Flame of Fury, and died, then the prog finished executing, moving you south of the guards (normally this would be a one-room move, but in reality it moved you from your pit).

Just my theory.
