I've been going over this topic a lot IC recently, so I want to touch on a few things... 1) Labels. "Light" "Neutral" "Dark" cannot describe every personality in Thera. Matters are more complicated than that. If I were a storm giant rager, and I saw an elf mage, I would see an enemy. If I were a cloud giant Sylvan, I might see a duergar warrior as an enemy, especially if I knew he was a defiler. Another human warrior, who may act much more "evil", might not trigger any hatred. 2) None of these terms are always good IC. Every well-thought out character has vices and virtues. Stahlhagen was evil, cowardly, and willing to betray, but he believed in the Imperial cause because he saw it as the best thing for Thera. In his eyes, he was going "good" work by raiding Battle or Sylvan, who he saw as barbaric holdovers from more primitive times. I would say things to them that implied they were evil, and they (more Battle than Sylvan) would say things like "I'm not evil, I'm neutral.", which really broke conversation. There are usually more clever ways to get your point across without the "Me good, you evil, must fight" mentality. 3) Some characters, including my current one, define "good" and "Evil" very differently than most. If you asked my current character, I assure you he thinks his soul is as clean as new fallen snow. I know it's not. You could also easily have the opposite- an RP hook I thought about but haven't tried was to make a Maran, then eventually turn from the cause because he can't stand the bloodshed. He may (in Shokai's eyes) be very "good" because he's beating up duergar and drow all day, but if you ask him he would feel his soul is flawed by all the violence, and that he is just as bad a murderer as any. In conclusion, not every character should be defined by alignment, race, and class alone. There is plenty of room for unusual cases at both ends. > You tell Brandeval 'Why do you attack me?' > Brandeval tells you 'you are evil' > <659hp 863m 473mv> reply I am not. > <659hp 858m 473mv> > <659hp 858m 473mv> > <659hp 863m 473mv> reply Because I thought you were evil, how many times do I have to tell you that? > Brandeval tells you 'you lied once.. why wouldn't you be lying again?' > <659hp 863m 473mv> > <659hp 863m 473mv> reply No > <659hp 863m 473mv> > <659hp 863m 473mv> reply Good guess. > <659hp 863m 473mv> > <659hp 863m 473mv> reply I guess for a lightwalker, it's no big deal if you make mistakes and kill those not of the shadows, eh? > <659hp 863m 473mv> reply I have told you thrice now. > <659hp 863m 473mv> Brandeval tells you 'if you are neutral.. > >>Is it me, or don't you think a lightwalker, someone who's good, would make damn sure that when he murders someone they are evil? If his god doesn't mind if he goes around killing people, maybe he should not be 'good'. I would think that if a good person ever killed someone who was not evil, it would devestate them, but I guess it doesn't bother some people.
