Think of it like this:

Thera is just a version of what could've happened to Earth had something different happened way back in the day. Perhaps a sorcerer happened upon a book of spells and upon reciting one of the spells he opened a gateway for goblins and trolls and all such to escape from their magical binds. Once the goblins and trolls were out and all of the spells were recited the gods of Thera escaped their binds as well, and upon killing "God/Allah/Buddha/whatever" they fashioned the land in their own way.

Remember too that Odin/Valhalla and so forth also shouldn't really be a part of Thera, since they're part of norse beliefs.
