Yes. It is necessary. It is the drawback to having weapons of unbelievable power (Look at the one Palan wielded). In my mortal life I lost 3 that had 25+ souls in them, all caused another death. Was it worth it? Hell yes! To be running around with a weapon that is +10/+10 or +25/+25 or +65/+65, it's a risk I'm willing to take. This dark spell allows the user to imbue a weapon with a portion of their power. This causes the weapon to become attuned to them, and has the unfortunate side-effect of destroying any enchantments on the weapon. If a weapon with this unholy blessing is later used to kill, it will grow in power. It has been noted that destroying one of these defiled weapons will cause great pain to the person it is attuned to.
