In Reply to: So the Arena of Judgement has a statue of Pontius Pilate who oversaw the crusifixion of Jesus Christ. Well, good thing sexual harassment is against the rules, we wouldn't want to offend anyone. N/T posted by Saagkri on February 19, 2000 at 06:19:08:
As said before, Pilate was one of the most respected Judges of the era, before and after Christ. As I remeber, the Roman custom was to allow one criminal to go free, at the descretion of the people in attendance. The masses were asked whom to allow to go free, and against Pilate's advice, they chose to let a proven rapist/murderer go free. Pilate, while he was technically "in charge", washed his hands of the entire matter and left it to the people and his chief advisor, whose name I forget. In Dante's Divine Comedy Pilate is in the vestibule that leads to hell, rejected by both heaven and hell for his refusal to make a decision(Canto III), while the chief advisor who actually passed sentence rests in one of the bolgias of the eigth circle. Notwithstanding the fact that simply because a statue exists doesn't mean it is worshipped, you should take umbrage to any statues you come across that depict large masses of people making uninformed and stupid decisions. The argument pertaining to RL theology in general appearing in CF has already been made, I beleive, but if you missed it, you should be pretty pissed off about quite a few different things in Thera. Odin, Valhalla, Vlad, etc. To close, is it 100% kosher? Mebbe, mebbe not, who really cares, it unimportant. Surely better things than this can be found to rectify. Steven B. p.s. I apologize for any mistakes, falsities, racial slurs, carcinigenic material, or offensive material in this post. It's late, I'm tired. p.p.s. Yes, I'm an active Christian. p.p.p.s. I think I'd rather go before Pontious Pilate than an enraged group of feminazis determined to reciprocate for millineums of misoginy, too. =)
