For a while now player action (even automtic player action like the amulet of dragonkind) does not destroy equ. Zomerseis used a scroll, which translates into a player doing it, not a mob, so the spell would not destroy your equ.
The guardian here is a mob, which of course does harm/destroy equ.
So it's not so surprising.
I agree that were I she I would have edited out the names of the things I'd lost. Just going to make for a spree of people swarming those mobs now.
