I don't see any problem with just saying "No" whether you hate the person or not. Granted, it's annoying as hell to the person you're saying no to, but that's life. Why does a reason always have to be given, especially when you don't always have a reason for doing something. Secondly, the fact that he doesn't like magi is also a good reason to just say "no." You don't have to show your hatred blatantly the first time contact has ever been made with a mage. Replying, "No, foul mage! I will not group with you because I hate what you stand for, for which I will be hunting you to death" is a sure way to do a who pk 5 seconds later and find that mage no longer in Thera. It's one of the reasons that I no longer warn a mage in advance that I'm going to be attacking them. They'll find out soon enough when I attack, and then after I attack, whether I kill them or not, I'll tell them the reason for it. In situations such as this, I usually either just tell them no, or in the case of my rager wannabe who's perfecting skills right now, I say, No, I've skills to master" If they are nearby, I might go practice those skills on the mage hide, but I see no reason to tell them that and then have to wait outside their guild for 4 hours for them to come out. It doesn't take a genius to figure out the mage's reaction when he gets news like that.
