Personally, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask him to keep the asking in the game, simply because it's not difficult for a bard to find out how good an instrument is. The "problem" with lists and such is that many people make a bee-line (never typed this before, makes me feel funny inside) straight for the thing that has the item with no clue what the area is like, why it's there, etc. That doesn't ruin the game, but it can cheapen the experience of exploring an area. I don't blame him for wanting to know what/where the best instruments are. It's natural. I also don't blame someone for posting a n/t that says "keep it in the game" as I hate when someone gets the fast track while I spend hours trying to figure something out. It's only human.
