Actually, it's entirely dependent on the
type of area you're writing. The man who
wrote the Forest of Nowhere must be a
f*cking Zen MASTER, for Christ's sake. Being
able to have fun with the descriptions and
the variety is fun, as well as designing the
mobs and objects. However, putting in all
the FLAGS on EVERYTHING and making sure not
to duplicate is a PAIN in the ASS. Then
comes the fun part of de- BUGGING! Yes! It
can all be yours! Running it on a mirror test
site and making sure it still compiles!
Spending half an hour over one fucking "~"!
Yes, it is painful sometimes, especially I
would think, when you're making them for a
very popular MUD like CF. I am sure area
ideas get rejected all the time, and only
several get through. (If I'm wrong here, let
me know, just a guess). It is NECESSARY, I
don't care how good your memory is, to put
the area out on paper before writing it in
your editor. Then you have to think about
what ranks it is for, and how it would
balance with the areas around it and its
proximity to hometowns and newbies' ability
to stumble into it. It's not easy, but it
really can be one of the most rewarding
experiences to create. I would urge every
player who enjoys computer programming and/or
mudding to a great extent to try and Immort.
Just don't do it on a place like Dark Mists,
otherwise the idiocy of the Implementors
might make you go crazy and go on a
kill-all-the-mortals carnage spree. Not that
that ever happened.
