Well, I liked Trell, for what little of his life I knew him for.

I don't know what Nep's tattoo does, and it's not too important.
A whip/fail spec inside the village is very scary to mages, even
without anything else. However, if you leveled up to hero, you'd
notice that people knew you were a whip spec, and that meant no
mage was likely to raid the village alone if they knew you were
around and defending. Dhaevor should be an example, how often did
a lone mage come inside the village if he was waiting inside?

I think I should have chosen maces over swords for my other spec,
because cranial is the best attack on a mage outside the village,
but swords are far better defense, and kept me alive through some
terribly out-numbered raids. They also make it easy to pick a
race-vuln to use against someone.

I think what Nepenthe meant is he'd have liked to see you try and
level up to hero and show how over the top rager berserkers are,
not that you didn't take on large groups.

As someone who's played plenty of mages, you must realize that level
27 mages don't have much access to invoker shields, barrier rods and
their best spells. They don't even have protective shields, which
drastically decreases the number of kills you get outside the village
walls. Entwine isn't scary at all when you can word, unless you're
teamed up with sylvan, something you'd never have as a duergar and
the current sylvan mage population. Cranial would give you some real
edge over Sedra out in the open, but you can see from the lengths of
fights that Diarmuid withstood that no skill would work enough times
in a row to completely lag someone out for a good 1000 or 1500 hp.
I realize deathblow gets stronger, but 2X deathblow at 27 on mages
without word of recall, barrier, shield, etc, is far more fearful than
5X at hero against a mage with all of those things. Bloodthirst at
level 30 is also the same as thirst at level 51 I belive. (It's 1/2
level hit dam if I'm not mistaken, up to 15/15, and much shorter at
30, meaning you're less likely to get yourself into trouble with it.)

Sedra never put a single train into anything except constitution and one
or two dex at low levels. You cannot play a rager with any heart and not
lose a lot of con. Sedra came up when the village was in great shape, and
still suffered, partly because of a lack of lower level ragers. It's just
too easy to rank up when your cabal is going strong, and the real challenge
of being a rager is at hero, even when we've got lots of heros around.

I found Thundgren to be completely unremarkable, though I'm sure he had a phenominal
pk ratio compared to anything I've ever played. I don't think he ever intended to go
past level 41, and after his quick rise to 40, I don't think I ever saw him outside
of when a ton of villagers were around and collecting just about every item. It's not
hard to be a badass when you scout before login, log off if things suck, and stay out of
the tough pk range. See the long list of notes (0) for him in the graveyard to prove what
an impression he left on everyone.

I'm glad you're going to play another rager, and I hope a warrior. Ragers
don't have to take on groups of five without powers, but much of what you say
Trell did is expected and given by all good ragers. You'll find that you can
still match up one on one with most everyone as a berserking hero, but finishing
a fight off is far more difficult. You shouldn't underestimate the quality of
players you'd be against at hero compared to low 30's and under either.

I think most ragers have made enemies of their entire pk. It's a bit worse when
you play an evil duergar, but for the most part, everyone who isn't an applicant
is after you. You shouldn't write off the low con, the enemies, the difficulty
in grouping, the trouble of exploring/walking to far from the village, and things
like that as Trell-specific hardships. They're rager-warrior specific, if not just
rager-specific, and it's part of the penalty that evens out what you think are over-
the-top powers. I don't think you could say Trell could obtain and keep a set of
phenominal equipment, even at hero, as a mage hero can and often does. Some of the
scariest weapons and armor are just not available, and it doesn't sound like Trell
went too long between deaths. You can imagine how much worse it gets when your whole
range, which has no reason to like you to begin with, finds out you've got a set of
darkened or something else fantastic.

> Anyway, trell had a *huge* backstory, and frankly some really great rp.
> But let me tell you, folks, that I'd have been even tougher as a hero.

heehee, and finally, I just have to commend your modesty.
