When I got fed up with the genre of online RPGs in the world (Everquest, UO, DSO, etc) I sat down and thought up a lot of game theory for the ultimate character building RPG and long term PVP, religious wars, etc..

To make it all interesting, I considered liches, vampires, dual classes, multi-classes, and the works. I have about 10 pages worth of notes and game theory thought up for something a helluva lot more entertaining than macroville UO or levelquest.

My take on Vampires:

Vampires would be ruled by a Vampiric God, who alone could do conversions from any race to Vampiric. The Vampires could exist in a forest which sprawled lots of the terrain between certain cities. The forest would be a forest of eternal night, so the vamps wouldn't need to be in coffins all the time (unless they were regenerating). The reason for this forest is because players would login (to a game they played) and find out they couldn't play because it was daylight. Well, that wouldn't do, seeing as how for every real life day, 4 days/nights would pass in the game.

One of the benefits of vampires would be they would know when the sun was about to come up, so they could flee back into the forest of night before they were burnt to death. When it was night, of course, they could leave the forest and attack other "adventurers" or whatever they wanted to do.

Just because they were vampires doesn't mean they were limited to fighting non-vampires. Tribes, cliques, clans, or whatever could exist within the race themselves and war over territory within the forest (much like Drows fight over house position when families fall out of favor with Lloth.)

If the Imps made a gigantic area, linking to places like Underdark, etc, which was always night-time, and maybe extended the days/nights out a little more, Vampires might be feasible.

That or just put regen restrictions on them when its daylight, whatever. I'll leave CF-molding to the CF people.
