Take a look at the crusades and tell me they went for purely religious
reasons. Every one of those ridiculous excuses for holy crusades went for
land, power and strategic locations. The use of christian beliefs was a
secondary thing at best. Actually there's already a cabal in place that
could have easily been molded after the medieval church. It's called the Empire
and their belief that everyone should bow to their ways or die fits perfectly.
So all you need now is a christ figure to give it a figurehead and there you
go. Make all the crusades you want. Just make sure to leave me out of it.
