Well, I was 2 years out of college and my then girlfriend, now wife was studying in Australia. My brother was studying in London and I was alone in Wheeling WV with a 486, a modem, and free Internet through my job. I started at another mud where player killing wasn't allowed. BORING!

I found CF on rec.games.mud.announce (I think) and started playing. Called my brother and got him online. It was cool to be able to "hang out" across the pond. Been in various stages of recovery from my addiction ever since. Now, when my wife complains I just tell her she should have never gone down under.
