Two words for ya. HELL YES!!!
It is also worth training extra mana if you have the spare trains. Mana will be your best friend once you get to have elementals. If you were a gnome you could also train some hp. With all mages try and max out your Int. and your wis. first. trust me i found out the hard way. :(
