Barrier, shield, aura come from wands. Using wands is a skill. MAges, including conjurers, have that skill. Using a wand is not "going out of their skills." It is using one of their skills. There is nothing dishonorable about using barrier, aura, shield.
What you might be trying to say here is that going and asking that friendly healer or paladin to put you in sanctuary, or asking a transmuter to haste you, might be dishonorable. That would fit your premise, because it would in fact be getting something from outside your skill set.
But using wands is not outside the set of skills granted to conjurers.
