In Reply to: You obviously misunderstood what I said. I in no way argued with what you did to him, and I agree, my defense does as you say "have nothing to do with the worth of the character" What I did say, was that a while ago, (probably five months) Everntien was a very good character, who had a large impact on Thera, and that was ruined, when people made him no fun to play. n/t posted by Gergran on March 6, 2000 at 00:51:03:

I'm going to assume you're correct in saying that E's player ceased to enjoy the character and ceased to play the character properly because of defaming forum posts. That's still partially (I could make a strong case for completely) his fault, because those posts contained truth.

Wild and false accusations have been (and will continue to be) made on this forum, but they're almost always refuted. There's a perfect example not a week old -- Chaldaie was accused of being something of a storage/hoard character, but she was quickly defended be several other posters. The public opinion afterwards would be (I assume) that she's not a storage character. In Everntien's case, only his out of character friends came to his defense -- some with claims so laughably false they did more harm than good.

I'll be the last to say that reputations stemming from this forum are always deserved, but in this case they were. If you don't want to be known as a gear-storaging character who won't log on unless he's pre-scouted his PK range with one of his other characters, not being such a character would be a good step in the right direction.
