Things like this happen, I have been wanted by the arbiters before, when I was only level 9.
But that is besides the point.
There are many imaginative ways to kill people, some even seem to border on cheating.
I once grouped with a guy that had just been killed, so while he was still a ghost he ran us into the maus. Of course, he had a key, us two groupmates died immediatly, he got all of our belongings, then he just walked out. I was angry, in every sense of the word, but when I thought about it, there was nothing I could do about it. It WAS a clever way to reeq a character, even though it was exploiting the ghost status of a recently dead char.
Everytime something like that happens, or I see someone doing something that is ooc, just remember this, "You cant accuse someone of being ooc without being ooc yourself" (Cador, 1997). So yeah, they exploit something, and you die. It sucks, and the only thing you can do about it is write an ooc note to the immortals (if you think it is against the rules, and not just an imaginative way of making you dead). Then forget about it. Write the note as yourself, not your character, and the next time you play, act as if your character knows nothing about it.
Here is another suggestion on how to recover after an asshole death like that.
Imagine that when your character dies, their entire memory on their death is erased from their memory and they are reborn. Treat it as a celebration that the gods let you live on after death. After all, you did die, yet you came back.
My utmost respect goes to those characters who from the get go decide that they will allow their chars 1 death only, and then delete, as it would be IRL. Not the most practical way to do things, but it does make you much much more careful about things.
On a last remark, if you dont know someone and they ask you to group with them, once you meet them, in a protected town is best, sit down, and make sure that they add you to their group. A number of times you will follow a char and they will immediatly run you into an aggro mob and get you killed, this prevents that, or at least get you better prepared for it.
But like all things, there is no answer to everything, and there will be people that will find new and exciting ways to make your char dead. Just remember, it is a game, it is fun, and move on. Just dont do like I do and delete each time you get ticked off...a habit I still have. Just quit. Go get a drink, watch some tele, and forget about it. It does save you a lot of trouble.
Damn, I rambled, this is what happens when I get to work and run out of stuff to do for a while.
See you in the fields.
