As said in the barrier and aura help files, if too many people know about those things, they will make some changes to them... and i guess the Forum is what they secretly meant by that...

If you can use wands, rods you are a mage, one of the best classes for exploring (imho)
Therefore, teleport around a bit, identify what you find, go to someplaces you know of being magical or of high difficulty...
Or simply ask in game, i've done it and got the answers i needed...
I prefer the exploration method though... CF has a LOT to offer in terms of areas....
